Call for Applications: International Business Trainee Scholarship 2027-2028
12-month internship at the Spanish-Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Madrid
The Scholarship Fund for Swedish Youth Abroad (Stipendiefonden för Svensk Utlandsungdom) is offering a scholarship for a recent Swedish graduate to undertake a twelve-month internship as an International Business Trainee at the Spanish-Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Madrid.
About the Spanish-Swedish Chamber of Commerce
The Spanish-Swedish Chamber of Commerce was founded 1949, promotes Swedish-Spanish business relations and has more than 250 member companies. The Chamber provides a strong networking platform, organizes business events, carries out advocacy, and supports Swedish and Spanish companies in their international expansion.
About the role
As an International Business Trainee, you will spend one year as part of the Chamber’s team in Madrid, working at the heart of the Spanish-Swedish business community. The internship offers an opportunity to develop an international professional profile, gain hands-on experience in business development and international trade, and build a valuable network of contacts among Swedish and Spanish companies, executives and institutions. You will work closely with the Chamber’s management, take responsibility for your own projects from day one and gain practical experience across several areas of the Chamber’s activities.
Main responsibilities include:
- Further developing the Chamber’s Business Connecting Services
- Organizing events and coordinating activities for Young Professionals
- Coordinating the 2027–2028 Mentorship Programme
- Managing business and networking events from planning through execution
- Establishing and developing relationships with Swedish and Spanish companies
- Supporting communication and marketing activities
- Supporting membership management and other aspects of the Chamber’s day-to-day operations
- Participating in Chamber events, including occasional evening activities
The program includes
In addition to the scholarship provided by the Scholarship Fund for Swedish Youth Abroad, the Chamber offers:
- Weekly Spanish language course (value approx. €500)
- Private accident and travel insurance covering the full internship period, provided by the Chamber (value approx. €700)
- 12-month membership in the Chamber’s Young Professionals network (for professionals under 35)
- A unique opportunity to build a professional network within the Spanish-Swedish business community
Qualifications and requirements:
- Swedish citizenship
- Completed bachelor’s or master’s degree by the start of the internship, preferably in economics, communications or international studies
- Must not have turned 31 by the start of the internship
- Limited previous work experience abroad
- Must not have previously received a scholarship from the Scholarship Fund
- Strong written and spoken skills in Swedish and English
- Very good knowledge of Spanish is a strong merit
- Strong work ethic, initiative, and interest in international business
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a small and dynamic team
- Availability to work in a hybrid format, normally three days in the office and two days remotely
- Flexibility to participate in occasional evening events
Selection process:
Applications are submitted directly to the Spanish-Swedish Chamber of Commerce. Following the Chamber’s selection process, the selected candidate’s CV and cover letter will be forwarded to the Scholarship Fund for approval.
The selected candidate will then meet representatives of the Scholarship Fund in person at Näringslivets Hus in Stockholm. The scholarship holder will sign an agreement with the Scholarship Fund.
Payment of the scholarship is subject to proof of valid health, travel and accident insurance. The required insurance coverage will be arranged by the Spanish-Swedish Chamber of Commerce for the internship period.
